About this tool

The badge is a small SVG image, in the style of the status badges seen on open-source projects, that shows the latest daily mean Wolf number of the Wolf.Solar community. Its colour follows the activity scale used throughout Explorer, from the blue of a quiet Sun to the red of an intense period, so a glance tells whether the Sun is worth pointing a telescope at today.

It is served directly by Explorer and refreshed every fifteen minutes; you do not need to host anything. Copy the HTML snippet into a web page or the Markdown one into a README, a forum signature or a wiki — the image may be embedded from any site, and the link takes visitors to the activity heatmap.

The value is the raw mean of the observations published for the most recent day with data, so it may move during the day as observers file their reports. If you display it somewhere public, a mention of Wolf.Solar next to it is appreciated: the number is the work of the observers.
